Kris and his team were incredible to work with. They completed a total overhaul on our front and backyards to include: light installation, irrigation, plant/grass installation, patio/pergola construction. They were extremely accommodating in meeting our compressed timeline, and completed the job with the highest quality results. Kris took the time to answer all of our questions, walk us through the process, and ensure that he had a comprehensive understanding of our vision. His team was courteous and thorough in their work. The quality of the finished product was outstanding, and Kris took the time to walk us through all aspects of maintaining our new landscaping. Quetzal Landscapes has my highest recommendation for any landscaping needs.
Our back yard project was by most landscaping projects standards kind of on the smaller side. We were originally were looking to have a retaining wall put in on the west side of the backyard property and were looking around for contractors regarding the project. Every other contractor until this point were looking to make major renovations to the backyard or to nix the wall idea and just simply put up a sturdy fence between our west neighbors and us (Our property overlooks our western neighbors). Quetzal Landscapes showed up understood our concerns (losing dirt down the slope into our neighbors yard) and addressed it by recommending just that a retaining wall. Kris from Quetzal immediately impressed us by listening to our concerns and quickly and decisively coming up with a plan that addresses our greatest concern. He did not try to up sell with greater plans he knew were not looking for anything super fancy just something sturdy. He also seems to have familiarity with many varieties of plants as he was able to call them out by name in our back yard. 1 week later he submitted a beautifully typed up and easily understandable itemized estimate of his plans with a reasonable price. There was quite a bit of back and forth as the project started to include replacement fencing and a gate for both the west and east side of our back yard which resulted in our neighbors getting involved. But they stuck with us even with the squabbling of pricing and haggling from our neighbors. My favorite part of Quetzal is the clean presentation of the project information, Kris's chill demeanor and never trying to up sell but make recommendations from his vast experience, and their crews are excellent and well mannered men. When the ground finally opened up to install the the retaining wall Kris made darn sure that wall would not move. The footing was wide, almost excessively so, but that was a our greatest concern was erosion and loss of earth and soil. I am glad he made sure his other project manager Michael was aware of this as it was Kris' executive decision to abate our concerns. The crew worked efficiently and very respectfully. Other than for their lunch breaks I never saw them standing around. They all were doing something. They occasionally played music which I didn't mind at all in the slightest. But I noticed when they did play music they made sure not to play it until after lunch time. I have to respect their consideration for noise. Every step of the way Kris and Michael stayed in touch with us and updated us with any questions and answers regarding the build and how the crews were going about it. These guys are good. They are professional. They are fair. Its a no brainer to go with them. The price they quote is the price they need to do what ever project you need done right. You will not be disappointed. This is the company we will be trusting to complete projects I feel uncomfortable doing my self.
We recently hired Quetzal after a neighbor in Scripps Ranch / Stonebridge referred them to complete a massive remodel of our front and back landscape and hardscape. Our project included a new patio cover, remodeled outdoor kitchen, italian porelain pavers, topcast concrete with turf interlays, a large privacy hedge, 5 hole putting green, citrus orchard, modern fence and gate, vegetable garden, and sandbox. We could not be happier with the result. Our lot is around 3/4 of an acre, and Quetzal truly transformed our property into a 5-star resort. From the initial consultation on, Kris, Michael, and the Quetzal team was exceptional. Here's what impressed us the most: Professionalism and Communication: Quetzal was prompt, courteous, and clear in explaining the project scope and timeline. They were great at keeping us updated throughout the process and always willing to answer questions. They were flexible with many changes we made along the way. Beautiful Workmanship: The crew's skill and attention to detail was outstanding. They are the hardest working guys we've ever seen. They transformed our yard into exactly what we envisioned. They did things right, both big and little. For example, they connected the gutters of our ADU to the landscape drainage without being asked just becuase it was the right thing to do. Friendly and Respectful Team: The crew was a pleasure to have around over our 5+ month project. They also taught our five year old son a lot about landscaping and let him "help." They were always respectful of our property and cleaned up after themselves. Fair pricing: We met with four other contractors before deciding on Quetzal based on a recommendation from our neighbor. We found Quetzal's pricing to be very reasonable compared to other contractors we bid with. They did not nickel and dime trough the process and were flexible with our many changes as the project progressed. We highly highly recommend Quetzal to anyone looking for a talented and extremely hardworking landscaping company. They have the ability to handle a large, complex project like ours but also standard sized yard remodels. We are reasonable but picky people and they exceeded our expectations. We're so grateful for their work!
