Had the owner of the company, Brian, show up at our house a week after his technician Nick came. I thought Nick was good at his job. He save us money by finding a block in one of the furnace tubes. Needed to have Hunley stop by a second time when the furnace stopped blowing hot air. Brian didn't introduce himself to us and seemed distracted. When he tried to explain why we needed to repair the furnace completely, costing thousands of dollars, he was annoyed when he was questioned. He had multiple explanations for the furnace issues, but ultimately said he didn't know the full reason why it wasn't working. His speech was slurred and it was hard to understand him. He left unexpectedly in a rush and never explained what happened afterwards. He made us all feel creeped out. Nick was great, but I'm glad we found another company to use instead.
Initially, my interaction with Hunley was positive. A technician named Nick found an issue with a hose connected to my furnace and it was a small piece of plastic was lodged inside. He removed the blockage and was thorough, knowledgeable, and friendly. He even took the time to show me how to read and understand my furnace error codes. His visit cost $186.40, and the furnace was once again blowing warm air. However, about six hours later, my Nest gave me a critical error alert stating that the furnace was running while the indoor temperature was dropping. I immediately contacted Hunley to report the issue. On Thursday, the owner, Brian, was scheduled to arrive at 10:00 a.m. By 11:30 a.m., I was told he was stuck in traffic, so we rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. He arrived late in an unmarked truck. His visit began with a personal question that felt unrelated to the job and made me uncomfortable. The owner’s first question was to ask where I went to church. This struck me as inappropriate given the context of the visit. I’ve retained video documentation of the interaction for my records. I then redirected the conversation to focus on the furnace. After about an hour, Brian said he believed the circuit board was broken but also discussed other possible causes. He suggested that the entire furnace might need to be overhauled and possibly even moved outdoors, due to the labor-intensive nature of repairs. The estimate I received for this work was substantial at over $17,000. His explanation was not particularly clear or persuasive, especially compared to the simpler and more confident diagnosis provided by Nick a week earlier. When I asked about the difference, Brian explained that Nick has three years of experience while he has twelve. I found this response unnecessarily defensive and unprofessional, particularly given the lack of diagnostic clarity during the visit. Brian also noted that he doesn’t spend much time on service calls and typically works from the office. This information, along with the confusing and inconsistent recommendations, reduced my trust in his assessment. As I tried to ask further questions, Brian abruptly ended the conversation, saying he needed to get home to his family. He picked up his bag, stated that a refund would be issued, and left. About 20 minutes later, Brian acknowledged via text that the situation had not been handled professionally. I appreciated the follow-up but declined his offer to perform future services at no charge, as I no longer felt confident in his work. I’ve attached screenshots of those follow-up messages, where the owner acknowledges the situation wasn’t handled professionally and offers to fix the issue at no cost. I’m sharing this honest account to help other homeowners in Morgantown make informed decisions. While the initial service was good, my overall experience raised concerns about communication, professionalism, and consistency.
I am so impressed with Hunley Heating and Cooling. Brian, the owner, responded immediately upon me reaching out with my heat pump issue on a Saturday (outside of normal business hours) and they had a new unit all lined up and completely installed by 4pm that Tuesday! Rune and Nick were the installers, and they are amazing! Extremely knowledgeable, very neat, safe, and incredibly nice/ kind people! Impeccable service! I am grateful for the guys at Hunley! I will 100% use them (forever) moving forward! :)
