Founders Insulation

I had a frustrating experience with this attic insulation contractor, mostly due to poor communication and lack of oversight. The original quote was very clear: 8 inches of spray insulation installed under the existing attic flooring. During the quote process, I explicitly told them we wanted to keep a significant amount of the flooring because we actively use the attic for storage. I reiterated this again with the first crew that came out to remove the old insulation. For context, the attic layout is straightforward: the middle ~10 feet running lengthwise was fully floored, and the left and right sides (about 10 feet each) were where blown insulation was supposed to go. From the start, it didn’t feel like anyone actually knew what the agreed-upon install plan was. Both the removal crew and the install crew asked me questions about how it was supposed to be done, and there was no on-site project manager at any point. Day 1 (removal) went mostly fine. They left enough flooring intact for me to be okay with it. Day 2 (installation) is where things really went wrong. They did install the spray insulation correctly, but then proceeded to install 24 inches of blown insulation EVERYWHERE — including directly on top of the flooring that we were supposed to keep accessible. Even worse, they effectively sectioned off all the items we already had stored in the attic, making it impossible to access anything. I was home all day, made it very clear I was available for questions, and honestly can’t understand why — even if they thought blown insulation was supposed to go everywhere — they wouldn’t consider that I’d still need access to my own belongings. After the crew left, I had to call the project manager and schedule a return visit the following week to fix the issue. I again asked that more flooring be installed, as originally requested, but all they did was install a walkway to sectioned off storage space. Despite the incorrect installation, rework, and the inconvenience, there was no discount or concession. I’m now left having to fix the storage situation myself, which is especially frustrating because our house doesn’t have much storage and we rely heavily on this attic space. The insulation itself may be fine, but the project management and communication were not, and that’s a big deal for a job like this.

WOW FANTASTIC. Founders is committed to great customer service from the first phone call to the final invoice. They answered all my questions on the phone. They called to see if I could reschedule 3 days earlier because of a big winter storm, so we did. They had to be a little late because of that, and the company without my asking gave me a discount. I felt that the overall price was quite reasonable. They offered several options in terms of insulating materials and explained the differences so I could make an informed decision. The installers Myron and Eric took such good care at not leaving a mess (they covered everything and then cleaned up so well that I would not have known they were here). They were professional and jovial - I wanted to keep chatting instead of letting them get to work! - and really seemed to enjoy their jobs. Now to the best part: the new insulation in the attic and around the ceiling of the half basement made an immediate difference in how the house retains heat during this arctic blast that's supposed to go on for several days. I bet it's going to cut our heating bill in half or better - the heater is coming on half as much as usual. Simply unbelieveable that it made such a huge difference overnight, and I'm kicking myself that I didn't get new insulation earlier. Do it, and don't look anywhere besides Founders!

I would definitely recommend Founders. I had spray-in insulation put in my attic, and after checking with other companies for estimates, I know I got a fair price with Founders. Brian, the owner was very pleasant and easy to work with. Brian told me that after the insulation was put in the attic it would feel like another room in my house. And, just to test it out, the temperature has been in the low teens, and guess what I could live up there. Amazing!
