Showed up at the door with no tools, but I walked him through where my water main was, where I was hearing the leak, and where the bathrooms were. He walks around for a minute and we go back outside to the water main. He stands there for a minute thinking, and with no tools and no detector, he says... well, if I was building your house and I was plumbing it from the ground up, I'd run one 3/4 line from here to the kitchen and then on to the 2nd floor bathrooms, and I'd run a separate 3/4 line off to the water heater and the downstairs bathroom. We can hear the leak in the downstairs bathroom but the hot water shutoff doesn't eliminate it, so I think it's a cold water leak between the main and the downstairs bathroom, in the slab. Then he went out to his truck and got some Ghostbusters-style equipment, hooks it all up, the water lines are exactly where he predicted, and the leak is exactly where he said it would be. I contracted a different guy to come and replace it the next day, and it went just like Darryl said it would. Totally amazing. 10/10. I thought it would be more expensive for them to drive the 2 hours back and forth, but it was not.
